With their inaugural season in 1977, it was evident the Seattle Mariners were destined for greatness as they finished the season with great attendance and high excitement throughout the Pacific Northwest. The team was named "Mariners" after the Pacific Northwest's world famous marina. The Mariners have played host to a number of great players over the years, including Hall of Fame pitchers Goose Gossage and Gaylord Perry. The Seattle Mariners currently play at Safeco Field, where they have played since 1999. The Mariners overall franchise accomplishments include three LCS appearances, three division titles, and one wild card selection.
The 2008 season has started slow for the Seattle Mariners, who currently hold a 24-42 record. This puts them in the #4 spot in the American League West division. Mariners' 22-year old pitcher Felix Hernandez is one of the brightest spots for this team, being widely considered as having the biggest potential to be the best pitcher in baseball by many scouting reports. With Hernandez rounding out this great Mariner defense along with All-Star designated hitter Jose Vidro topping off the offense, the Mariners look to turnaround this slow start into a winning season. Ticket sales are currently slow because of how poor this start to the season was, although expectations are high that the Mariners will turn it around. Fans are looking forward to another great season from the Seattle Mariners.
